Franchisee Allen Tharp — the owner of British restaurant and pub The Lion & Rose — could not provide What Now San Antonio with additional information before publication, however, the permit application offers further insight.

Renovations to the 2,052-square-foot restaurant will begin in March 2024 and be completed in July 2024. For an estimated $425,000, local firm Legg Architecture will execute the job.

Since Golden Chick, formerly known as Golden Fried Chicken, was opened by Howard and Jacque Walker in San Marcos in 1967, it has become “one of the fastest growing restaurant brands in the U.S. and was recognized as one of the very top brands in the country by Nation’s Restaurant News,” according to the eatery’s website.

On the menu, patrons can expect fried chicken, breaded chicken tenders served with gravy for dipping, warm yeast rolls, and sweet tea to wash it all down.
