According to a recently submitted construction permit application, Abbott’s Frozen Custard plans to open a new location in San Antonio at 8203 Talley Road — near establishments such as Anytime Fitness, Gloss Nail Bar, and McDonald’s.
Behind the expansion is Southern Scoops LLC, whose CEO and Equity Partner Barry Barron tells What Now Houston, “I’m just so excited about this opportunity. We are focusing on Texas currently, but hope to grow beyond the State.”
The filing states that construction of a new 1,242-square-foot outpost will begin on January 17, 2024, and finish in May. For an estimated $1,000,000, Fort Worth-based firm Franz Architects will carry out the project.
For readers unfamiliar with the chain, Abbott’s Frozen Custard has operated as a family-owned business for nearly 120 years and is known for its small-batch custard and milkshakes, floats, cakes, and pies.
Beyond the upcoming Talley Road shop, “the entire state of Texas has been franchised by Southern Scoops LLC for up to 100 locations” throughout Austin, Dallas & Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio, according to What Now Houston.
