The businesses announced the merger yesterday, sharing that they are planning to “bring together the best of both worlds, creating a powerful synergy that will strengthen their shared commitment to crafting exceptional, approachable beer for the San Antonio community and beyond” in a press release.

For readers who are unfamiliar with the brewing companies, Alamo was founded by Eugene Simor in 2014 and operates a beer hall at 202 Lamar Street — and VIVA, founded by Michael Johnson and Bobby Jones, made its debut in 2020 when it opened at 533 Delaware Street.

“I have been really impressed with how quickly VIVA has grown and how the beer has resonated with San Antonio,” shares Simor.

“As the craft beer scene in San Antonio continues to grow, this merger promises an exciting future, with both VIVA Beer and Alamo Beer Company working hand in hand to craft exceptional experiences, celebrate the essence of San Antonio, and raise a toast to the vibrant craft beer culture that defines our beloved city,” Alamo Beer Co. says in the release.

How this will affect operations at the existing Alamo and VIVA locations hasn’t been announced yet. Stay tuned for updates.
