According to a recently submitted permit application, local fast-casual Tex-Mex chain Las Palapas is expanding — planning to debut a new outpost in Converse.

Coming to 3065 E Loop 1604 N, suites 111-112, the eatery will land near establishments such as BB Beauty Nails & Spa, Catalina by Heritage Homes, and Perfect Shift Transition Repair.

Renovations to the existing 3,186-square-foot space are scheduled to begin on June 10 and finish on December 10. For an estimated $300,000, the project will be carried out by San Antonio-based firm AP Architects.

For readers who are unfamiliar with the concept, Las Palapas was founded in San Antonio in 1981 and now operates over 20 outposts across the city’s metro area. The menu ranges from breakfast items such as tacos and chilaquiles to lunch and dinner options including soups, burritos, flautas, and enchilada plates.

The company’s CEO and majority owner, Wayne Detmar, could not provide additional information before publication.

An opening date has not been announced yet, so stay tuned for updates.
